Today we live in a world in which limits and borders are constantly challenged and identities are redefined and reconstituted. Our mission in the Department of English Language and Literature is to provide an internationally oriented, thematically diverse and well-structured yet flexible program that will cater the needs of individuals who can adapt to the constant changes in our technologically advanced and connected globe and interact with different cultures at ease. Our language, literature and cultural courses all have an interdisciplinary framework aiming not just professional knowledge but providing vital skills of thinking critically and creatively about ourselves and our world and the texts that reflect and shape them.  Students have the chance to explore various genres, periods, critical theories and ideologies through literature, film, graphic novels and other media through which they will learn about the social, historical and cultural contexts in which these texts emerged and about the role of language and culture in the creation, dissemination and reading of these texts. Our aim is to nurture sophisticated, inquisitive, resourceful and well informed future researchers and professionals in the areas of creative writing, broadcasting, media, publishing, foreign language education and the business world by way of high quality research and teaching activities under the guidance of passionate, highly trained and experienced and internationally published scholars. Our students also have the opportunity to work in projects and frameworks of cooperation with other international institutions and organize and participate in national and international conferences thereby enhancing their professional, organizational and communicative skills as well as the ability to use English effectively.
